Legacy giving is flexible. You can choose to leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or even particular assets. How, when, and what you give is entirely up to you. Read on!
Getting people of all ages into boats and foster an inclusive, do-it-yourself community for boating enthusiasts is at the core of Queen City Yacht Club. Your gift will help QCYC continue its mission to deliver recreational sailing, educational programs, social events, and racing.
From replacing dinghies and coach boats, to upgrading sails and keeping the Learn To Sail facilities in ship shape, your thoughtful giving will help introduce boating to kids from all circumstances in a unique natural setting.
As you establish your own legacy, you will ensure that QCYC can continue its work, even when faced with difficult situations. Legacy gifts can help deal with large capital expenses like roof replacement or repairing and replacing the Algonquin Queen. Legacy git can also be very helpful when QCYC is faced with large capital expenses such as the current situation with the Rapids Queen.
A will is a legal document that outlines what happens to your money, property and possessions after your death. It’s also a way of making sure you have a plan for how you will take care of your loved ones and the causes you care about most.
Not at all. You may be surprised to learn that nearly 1.5 million Canadians alive today have already left gifts to not-for-profits in their wills. A gift in your will is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on a cause that reflects your values.
You are extending your generosity beyond your lifetime! Queen City Yacht Club has served as a unique, inclusive community hub for people that love boating since 1889. Let’s make sure it continues for many more generations!
You don’t have to update your will to add a gift. You can use a simple legal document called a codicil to make an addition or amendment. It can be as short as a paragraph to include Queen City Yacht Club. Alternatively, or in addition, you could make Queen City Yacht Club the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
Absolutely. In fact, a will is the best way to ensure your loved ones are provided for. You determine what assets or portion of your estate is allocated to family, friends and your favourite causes. And, you can change you mind and revise your will if needed.

Consult with your estate planning lawyer or financial planner. They can help you consider your overall estate plan, ensuring that your needs and those of your loved ones are met while also supporting Queen City Yacht Club.
To include Queen City Yacht Club in your estate plans, you can share the following sample wording with your lawyer or advisor:
“I give to the Queen City Yacht Club, a not-for-profit organization currently of Seneca Avenue,Toronto, Ontario, M5J 2A1, ___% of the residue of my estate to be used for its general purposes.”
“I give to the Queen City Yacht Club, a not-for-profit organization currently of Seneca Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5J 2A1, the sum of $___ to be used for its general purposes.”
Please note that as a non-profit organization that is not a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, the Queen City Yacht Club is unable to provide an official tax receipt for your legacy gift. This means your estate will not receive the donation tax credit benefit that comes with gifts to registered charities.
